Curriculum & NEP 2020

NCERT. CBSE. NEP 2020. In that order.

The National Curriculum Framework is the foundation. NEP 2020’s emphasis on reasoning, creativity and cross-disciplinary thinking is built in, not bolted on.

NCERT textbooks form the backbone of every subject from Class I to XII. They are the most rigorously researched school textbooks in India, and we trust them. Our teachers supplement, they don't replace.

NEP 2020 reframes the purpose of school assessment: from testing memory to measuring understanding. At Mother Mary's, project work, lab practicals, oral assessments and portfolio submissions count alongside written tests, because they tell us something different about what a student knows.

The 5+3+5+2 structure maps directly to our stages: Foundation (5 years), Junior (3 years, Classes III–V), Middle (5 years, VI–X), Senior (2 years, XI–XII).

How new education policy shows up in the classroom

Competency-based questions

From Class VI, at least 30% of assessment is competency-based, questions that test application and reasoning, not recall. We have been doing this since 2022.

Integrated project-based learning

Half-termly interdisciplinary projects across all stages. A Class VIII project on water might involve Geography, Science, Hindi and Mathematics, graded as a unit.

Oral and practical assessment

Oral examinations, lab records and co-scholastic assessments are part of the official grade. The student who understands but writes slowly is not penalised.

Reading programme

A structured independent reading programme from Class I to XII. The library is co-curricular, not supplementary. Reading lists are set; time is given in school.

Social & Emotional Learning

Morning assembly, house system and the school counsellor are all part of the SEL programme, intentionally designed. Circle time in Primary; peer mentoring in Senior.

Flexible elective choices

At Class XI, students choose their elective from within their stream. Subject counselling helps each student build the combination right for her ambitions.

Assessment pattern

How students are evaluated at every stage
