School Rules & Code of Conduct

Our code of conduct ensures every student can learn in a safe, respectful, and focused environment. These expectations apply on school premises, during school activities, and on any platform where students represent the school. Includes our zero-tolerance anti-bullying policy.

Conduct

Five areas of expectation

Attendance & Punctuality

1
Minimum 75% attendance is mandatory for eligibility to appear in CBSE board examinations.
2
Students must arrive before the first bell. Late arrival without reason is a disciplinary matter.
3
Leave applications must be submitted in advance in the school diary and signed by a parent or guardian.
4
Medical absences require a doctor’s certificate to be submitted on the day of return.
5
Prolonged absence without communication will result in the student’s name being struck off the rolls.

Respect & Conduct

1
All staff, teaching and non-teaching, must be addressed with courtesy at all times.
2
Mobile phones are not permitted on school premises without explicit written permission from the Principal.
3
Vandalism, damage to school property, or misuse of facilities will attract immediate disciplinary action.
4
Behaviour during school trips, excursions, and inter-school events reflects directly on the institution.
5
Students are expected to maintain decorum in assemblies, corridors, and common areas.

Academic Integrity

1
Copying, plagiarism, or any form of dishonesty in tests, examinations, or assignments is strictly prohibited.
2
Assignments must be submitted on the date set by the teacher. Extensions require advance application.
3
Any behaviour that disrupts the learning of others, including classroom disturbance, is a disciplinary matter.
4
Misrepresentation of identity, forging signatures, or tampering with official school records is a serious offence.

Dress & Appearance

1
Full prescribed uniform must be worn every school day, including on the day of examinations.
2
No jewellery other than small plain stud earrings is permitted.
3
Hair must be neatly tied; coloured hair, nail polish, or any form of cosmetics is not allowed.
4
The school identity card must be worn and visible at all times on school premises.
5
Prescribed sports uniform must be worn on PE days; general uniform on all other days.

Use of School Facilities

1
The library, laboratories, and computer rooms may only be used with a teacher present or with permission.
2

Zero tolerance

Anti-Bullying Policy

Our commitment

Mother Mary’s School has zero tolerance for bullying in any form, physical, verbal, social, or digital. This policy applies to all students, on school premises, during school activities, and on any online platform where students interact with this community.

What counts as bullying

Bullying is repeated behaviour intended to hurt, humiliate, exclude, or intimidate. A single serious incident may also be treated as bullying.

Physical harm, threats, or intimidation
Verbal abuse, name-calling, or deliberate humiliation
Social exclusion, rumour-spreading, or deliberate isolation
Cyberbullying: harassment, threats, or humiliation on any online platform
Damage to a student’s belongings, reputation, or relationships

How to report

Anyone who experiences or witnesses bullying is encouraged to report it. There is no wrong way to come forward.

Speak directly to your class teacher or any trusted staff member
Submit a written complaint via the school diary to the office
Parents may write directly to the Principal at principal@mothermarys.school
Anonymous reporting is accepted through the school diary drop-box
Students may approach the school counsellor in confidence

What happens after a report

Every report is treated with seriousness and confidentiality. The school follows a clear process:

Referred to the Student Welfare Committee within 24 hours
Both parties heard separately and fairly
Parents or guardians of both parties notified at the appropriate stage
The student who raised the concern kept informed of progress
A written record maintained for every investigation

Consequences

Consequences are proportionate to the nature and frequency of the behaviour:

Counselling and parental meeting for a first or minor incident
Written warning and formal parental notification for repeated or serious conduct
Suspension for significant or sustained bullying
Removal from the rolls in severe or repeated cases where safety is at risk
Cyberbullying may be referred to relevant authorities if warranted

Support available

Both the affected student and the student whose behaviour is being addressed have access to support:

Trained school counsellors during school hours, no appointment needed
Peer support programme pairing senior students as mentors
Parent-teacher and parent-counsellor sessions
School-wide workshops on empathy and respectful relationships
Referral to external support services where appropriate
Disciplinary procedure

Violations are handled progressively: verbal counselling → written warning → parental meeting → suspension → in serious cases, removal from the rolls. The school follows natural justice principles: every student is heard before any formal action is taken.

Review & accountability

Reviewed annually by the school management. All staff receive training on identifying and responding to misconduct and bullying as part of professional development. The Principal holds responsibility for consistent implementation across the school.
